Trend Board: Modern Tales
As we snuggle into our childhood beds, the mattress a bit small, and our toes hanging off the edge, the tiny bookshelf in front of us, with all of our childhood books lined up with its pages yellowing, reminds us of an old time. As we drift off to a blissful sleep, we think of classical characters in modern settings. The juxtaposition of classic tales by the Grimm brothers and C.S. Lewis in millennial sensibilities provides an interesting comic relief.
Modern Tales reimagines the figures of age old tales in the new world, where Cinderella is a sneaker junkie and often indulges in customised shoes, Rapunzel has gotten into hair care in her time of social isolation, while Snow White has developed an aversion to organic apples. Such imaginations induce a feeling of relatability in otherwise fantasy characters. It entails designs that are both a whimsical dreamscape and a nod to reality by incorporating various cool girl cuts in mellow hues, with fabrics that’s a blend of both luxury and practicality.
Trend Board: Subliminal Vortex
The progress of science and technology has allowed humans to find answers to a lot of age old questions, but the visage of the future still remains an elusive mystery. With the growing disruption around us and the rising uncertainty of the probable future, the levels of anxiety among the masses is skyrocketing. We wake up and go to sleep drenched in negativity with mental blockages culminating overtime. Since we can’t find concrete answers through science, we look for the hope of a better future in whispers of the universe.
Bound to our homes, we practice affirmations that promise to change our reality. We find comfort in the healing power of crystals and chants. We seek to trust in the power of the universe by channelling our thoughts and actions, and drawing strength from within. By trusting the universe, we inadvertently are trusting ourselves and creating a positive atmosphere for us to thrive in. Subliminal Vortex entails iridescent shine in calm pastel hues, with flowy silhouettes that blend seamlessly from day to evening wear, in fabrics that’s supple and soothing between our fingertips and has the power to make the wearer feel like they are magic themselves.

William Gibson once said "modern Japan simply was cyberpunk" and it's a statement that's hard to refute given the wealth of cyberpunk content that fetishizes Tokyo ( referred to as "Neo Tokyo") and it's crowded streets. Downtown Tokyo although not intentional has become the most popular setting for a variety of cyberpunk media ranging from games, movies and anime. The downtown area consists of older traditional buildings on top of which new modern ones are built. These modern buildings are adorned with bright neon signs and digital displays that advertise a psychotic degree of merchandise.Therefore, when seen from afar, Tokyo looks very technological and futuristic but on close examination reveals that a majority of places still retain their classical architecture. It is this mix of both the technological and the traditional that gives it that cyberpunk atmosphere. Many artists have travelled to Japan to see its nightlife and to see the inspiration for all things cyberpunk, firsthand. Perhaps this mix of the traditional and the futuristic, the wealthy and the poor, the creative and the benign, is what lends it that all-important feeling of authenticity to its cyberpunk-trappings.
